Gardening Tips from West Michigan Blog
Whether you plan to grow your own herbs and veggies, beautiful flowers, or other foliage, gardening is a great way to provide food for yourself, butterflies, bees, and make your yard look great. In this post, we’re going to provide you with a few easy tips that will help you ensure that your garden gets off to a healthy start (and finish).
Stagger your plants. One of the easiest ways to achieve a high yield is to stagger the placement of your plants inside of your garden bed. By avoiding perfectly aligned, gridded, square patterns, you don’t just give your plants the space they need to grow and thrive, you create additional space for more plants.
Grow vertically. Your garden doesn’t need to be restricted to just growing on the ground level. You can also have your plants grow upwards. Many of Michigan’s most delicious vegetables grow on vines, including tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash. As these plants can be grown on support beams or trellises, they can turn even the smallest space into a bountiful garden.
Tend to your soil. The first step toward a successful garden is selecting the right garden soil. There are a number of greenhouses and stores throughout West Michigan that carry a wide range of soils, plant fertilizers, and other gardening products. Once you’ve chosen your soil, they can help you find products that will ensure that your garden’s soil is perfectly balanced to ensure healthy growth for everything you plan on growing in your garden.
If a plant-filled garden isn’t enough, you may want to consider really kicking your outdoor space up a notch with a backyard pond or waterfall feature.
